  • We at TechoShark, Inc. appreciate the recent article on our hoozat application at the Daily Camera, but would like to clear up some misperceptions that may have been created by the article.

Most importantly, we'd like to point out that our application proactively protects user's privacy by including multiple layers of privacy controls.  This was not mentioned in the article.  First, we preserve the existing privacy guarantees provided by Facebook and other social networks.  hoozat users will only be able to learn about other hoozat users, and only as much as users are willing to say about themselves on Facebook or other social networks.  Further, we provide privacy protection in at least three ways so that users can opt out of our application at any time, e.g. by pausing our application, logging out of it, and exiting our app.  And, our plan is to provide even greater control to users than currently exists on social networks, that is hoozat will go beyond the state of the art so that users will feel comfortable by controlling when, where, and what information they choose to advertise.

We'd also like to clarify and state clearly that the goal of our application is to help people meet and connect in social events and occasions.  Users who run our app by definition want to meet and connect with others and 'want' to be seen.  This is true of both business networking events and other social events.  We feel this is a beneficial 'networking' tool for those interested in networking.  As noted earlier, users can turn off the application when they're no longer interested in networking.  We further include a feature that disallows anyone to only observe while not also contributing their own presence. Thus, we feel that the use of the term 'snooping' in the article was unfair to the overall goal of our application, and an extremely narrow interpretation of a broadly beneficial new technology.

We hope that this clears up some of the confusion introduced by the article, and shows that we are striving to provide positive technology for an amazing mobile computing world.  We are a new company, part of your local educational entrepreneurial community, and we are looking for your support to make our product better.
